Santa stopped by our house again!! This time he brought little masonry elves.
Remember the holes in our brick from the initial foundation repair? These holes have been in our laundry room and area/hall leading to the garage for 2.5 years. Yes, years…not weeks…not months. Both collecting and making dust of their very own. Holes like this have magical powers like that. (You can read about the initial foundation work here if you’re looking for some late night reading to put you to sleep.)
It seems like we’ve had to do the “step down and step up” dance to get across these holes forever. I’m almost afraid we’ll stumble all over ourselves now. Mark my words, muscle memory will get the best of one of us. Lol!
Why did we wait so long? I’m glad you asked.
The saga of “is our foundation still moving?” has made us hesitant to do any kind of repairs. I mean, who wants to pay good money to fix something only to have it ripped out again to adjust a pier. Last year we needed 10 piers adjusted and 9 new ones. Makes me a little gun-shy.
Well guess what??? We had the foundation company out here right before Christmas and they think the house is finally stabilized!! Wahoo!! We need to have 6 exterior piers adjusted around the outside of the garage, but nothing was moving in the main part of the house.
Wait, what?! You read that right. We just might be able to start putting our sad little Humty-Dumpty house back together again.
So what did I immediately do after hearing that? That’s right… I started calling for estimates.
They apologized that they couldn’t get to us until after Christmas, which kinda made me laugh. The mason couldn’t believe we’d been living with those holes for 2.5 years.
And here we are today!
Would you just look at this glorious repair!!! The rest of the brick floors will need to be stripped and resealed (the patches will be a lot lighter when it dries), but that needed to be done anyway.
Seriously. It’s like some wonderful little masonry elves showed up and made my floors a million times better.
The little elves also fixed the brick steps in our living room. We had about half a dozen pop off when we had to remove the hardwoods after the flood in June of ’16 (not to be mistaken with the flood of ’17 -ha!).
Before
After
And yes, we still have concrete floors, missing sheetrock, and exposed pipes, but this is a huge step in the right direction!! Ha…step! Get it?! I’m a dork.
Now the only thing stopping us is, well, time and money. Lol!
