Seriously, it’s about time. I have hinted around about ripping this up for over a year (so basically as long as we’ve lived in this house.) The previous owner told us on one of our many walk-thrus before we bought the house, just how much she loved carpet — she just didn’t like hardwood (horror!) Thankfully, their realtor convinced them at some point in the sales process to remove the carpet in the downstairs bathrooms and replace it with tile. I am SO grateful. Ya’ll carpet in the bathroom es no bueno. We still have it in the upstairs bathrooms and it gives me the ewwie-cacooies. And on the back porch. Carpet everywhere. I keep reminding myself, it’s a process.
We knew that under the carpet in the living room was parquet floor. The previous owner told us about it and we peeked over by the back door — it looked pretty good there, so we were hoping for the best. Here’s what we found when we pulled up that first big piece on the other side of the room…
Overspray. Ugh. That sound you just heard? Pretty sure that was me dying a little.
And old deteriorated carpet pad stuck on with nasty old glue. I think I spy some greasy-grimy-gopher-guts in there somewhere.
And paint footprints with the other gross stuff.
At least all the carpet is up and the heaviest overspray is by the wet bar. I guess if we can’t get it up, we’ll use lots of throw rugs.
In the event of a total meltdown, we’ll paint the floor.
